Not Just Blowing Smoke! - What the colour of exhaust may reveal:
White smoke after a warm-up suggests a coolant leak. Intermittent white puffs are a clue to a cracked head (near a valve) or coolant leaking into a single cylinder.
Blue smoke is caused by excessive oil consumption, often a result of carbon deposits on the piston crown lands.
Black smoke is a sign of unburnt carbon, which could have its roots in a faulty injector, fuel pump or dirty air filter. It may also suggest an overloaded engine.
Continual use of the Filtro Max has shown to deminish signs of the above conditions. See "Tell Us" section.
Save Your Money
Supplemental Engine oil additives - even those old familiar brand names - can be a total waste of money and may even diminish the effectiveness of your regular lubricant. Bottom line: a top branded engine oil, a quality oil filter and the Filtro Max are the only things that should be used on and in your crankcase.
Shut 'er down
Lengthy idling wastes more than fuel - it could eventually waste your engine. As your engine idles the temperature drops, causing water vapour to condense in the crankcase, where it combines with sulphur oxides to create sulphuric acid. Net reslut: damaging deposits on pistons and valves.
Too much idling can add wear and tear to your engine. With the right viscosity of engine oil, shutting down and re-starting make more sense. The environment will be happier too!
